2026 Current Activities
Uinta Mountain Headwaters - Flakes, Flights, and Forecasts
The Colorado River Authority of Utah pilot is evaluating a complete measurement-to-forecast workflow in the Utah Lake and Duchesne River headwaters. Current products include ASO lidar surveys, M3 Works / iSnobal snowpack model updates, and WRF-Hydro hydrologic forecasts for the Strawberry and Duchesne systems.
The project was structured as a three-year pilot through 2026 and is now providing the technical basis for evaluating how basin-wide snow measurements and updated streamflow forecasts can be incorporated into water-resources operations predictions.
Weber River Basin - Wings Over Weber
Wings Over Weber is a second Utah ASO pilot led by the Utah Division of Water Resources with Airborne Snow Observatories, the Office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner, Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The project includes two to three surveys per year from 2025 through 2027 and is intended to improve water-supply forecasting in a basin important to municipal, agricultural, industrial, and Great Salt Lake water management.
